1821 Academy Presents: The Juneteenth Pay What You Can Picnic

Join us Friday from 4PM–8PM for an easygoing Juneteenth community picnic centered around food, music, culture, and togetherness.

This is a pay what you can gathering created to make space for community connection without barriers. Bring a blanket, lawn chair, cooler, snacks, drinks, your people, and good energy. Whether you stay for an hour or all evening, come relax and celebrate with us.

We’ll have music, food, conversation, card games, dominoes, spades, UNO, dice, and space to simply enjoy one another. Depending on turnout, we may also set up community games and activities throughout the evening.

This gathering is rooted in honoring Black foodways, Southern culture, Tidewater traditions, and the ways our communities have always gathered around food, storytelling, music, and joy.

Bring your cousins, your aunties, your homegirls, your camping chair, your playlist suggestions, your recipes, your stories — and come vibe with us
